pessimistic optimist

This article got me thinking about those terms.

Pessimism & optimism

Pessimist denoting a negative or somber outlook
Optimist denoting a positive or favorable outlook.

The problem I have with them is the general perception in their usage. I'm sure there are behavioral studies in and around the words and connotations of positive/negative, though the question in my head is this. How much does one or the other actually differ in the realistic picture.

That is, are optimist's more wrong about the world view then pessimists? Is there a better way to view or word this?

Rabbit trail led me to a book to read...

Discourse is the only means of being able to communicate with one another. Assuming one person knows things that you know is not realistic. Spam will be deleted, fallacious messages will be pointed out as such, and educating the reader is not the objective.
