A foundational bedrock in being human is the ability to have a understanding of the foundations of reality.
We are continually deprived of this, due to a huge number of factors, ranging the gamut of our reality from socio-economic, to generational passing of the baton of continued oppression of the majority of those who inhabit this planet, to biology, to sociology, history, et al.
Granted it was only a handful of a millennia since we've had recorded written documents, it's not like we had any sense back then - sarcasm alert!
We most certainly had developed thought and reasons for the earliest proto-settlements as now being discovered around the world.
